Ha Long Bay
Ha Long Bay is three hours by car from Hanoi. This spectacular bay is said to contain over 3000 islands that jut up from the water, creating a maze of lagoons and water ways. Vietnamese legend says the bay was formed by a giant dragon whose tail thrashed out the limestone cliffs.
I always try to make time at the end of my visit to spend some time on the bay just to get a break from the noise and hustle. You can rent a boat and crew to take you out for an overnight cruise on one of the many quaint but comfortable boats. The seafood feasts are always wonderful, especially after a relaxing dip in the warm, saltwater.
